Here's the story... ...It started with an English assignment When my younger son, Kyle, was a junior in high school, his English teacher challenged the class to argue a position of personal interest, which others might not like. After some thought, he decided to argue for taking a Gap Year. Of course, Gap Year is common in the U.K. and other parts of the world, and it is only starting to be talked about in the U.S. Where he ever got the idea, we have no idea. But as his parents, we figured that this was just a passing thought, and he would soon move to decide on where to go to college after high shool. ...Then grew with encouragement As our Kyle continued through his summer before starting his last year in high school, he continued to talk about his idea of taking a Gap Year. He started doing more research online and became more excited. And others with whom he spoke encouraged him to pursue this, if it truly interested him. His idea grew from taking a break before college, to finding a worthwhile program to combine adventure with travel and education. ...Then grew some more to help others So, as Kyle continued to gravitate toward this idea, he found many Internet sites offering Gap Year advice, ideas and placements. We decided to create a site to organize links to various Gap Year sites, with personalized reviews. That way he could categorize his research and let others benefit from his research, too.
